My stomach topsey, turvey, a slight shake in my hands, joy caught right at the bottom of my throat I braided littlesis's hair this morning…. I’m going to summer camp!!! Well not me – sadly I don’t think there are summer camps for 27 year olds, but my body doesn’t seem to know that. I feel anticipation and excitement all over just as if I were going! I am sure littlesis will have the most amazing time!! I picture her riding horses, swimming, playing tag and paddling a canoe.
Nothing could squash the internal smile I was feeling. A daunting hour and a half drive that I knew would take me into unknown Sundre bush left me unaffected.
Everything unfolded perfectly, even leaving on time and giving the gas attendant a near heart attack (my always late reputation is far flung!!) We made not one wrong turn and ran into zero construction zones. Soon we arrived at the picturesque camp with it’s large main building and doll house cabins dotting a magical little forest filled with kids whose excitement levels were busting the high point was all anyone could have hoped $300.00 would buy. After a quick and pain free registration, picking up an ever cool camp T-shirt, finding cabin #7 and helping Lexie claim a bottom bunk I signed a sheet of paper and hugged her goodbye and then my heart sunk. I have to leave her????
Bigsis (oldest stepdaughter) guided me out of the magical little forest, (my sense of direction has always left a lot to be desired); we climbed into the truck and drove away. I must remind myself over these next three days that she will have the time of her life and take away everlasting memories… I just hope someone reminds her to brush her teeth oh and who will do her hair????
